M-821: Historical Highlights of Israel

Tour Overview

Day 1 - Sunday: Welcome to Israel!

You will be greeted at the airport by a representative from Mazada Tours.

Transfer to accommodations in Tel Aviv.

Day 2 - Monday: Pearls of the Western Coast

After pick-up from your hotel, proceed for a beautiful drive along the coast to Caesarea. History fans will love exploring the archaeological ruins and excavations of this ancient city where gladiators once competed.

Next, you will proceed to Haifa, the third largest city in Israel. Situated on the slopes of Mount Carmel, take in a gorgeous panoramic view of the city and Mediterranean Sea. Visit the Baha’i Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Continue on to Rosh Hanikra where you will descend by cable car to admire the spectacular underwater grottoes. Lastly, we will visit Acre, one of the oldest cities in the world, which has been continuously inhabited for 4,000 years. This city has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through the bustling market, the mosque, and the old port. See the remarkable underground Crusader City and crypt while learning about their fascinating history and culture.

After your fulfilling day of sightseeing, you will return to your hotel for overnight.

Day 3 - Tuesday: Massada and Dead Sea

After pick-up at your hotel, you will drive along the picturesque Judean Hills towards the Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth.

You will stop at a Dead Sea cosmetic shops which features skin care products made of the famous Dead Sea mud and minerals. These products are suitable for a variety of skin types and are touted for their natural deep-cleaning, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada, Herod’s ancient fortress. Ascend by cable car and tour the mountain fortress while learning about the heroic story of Jewish fighters and their last stand against the Romans. Take in the archaeological remains of the palace, synagogue, water cisterns, mosaic floors, and roman baths.

Afterwards, you will descend by cable car and continue to the Dead Sea. Here, you will have to opportunity to float in the Sea and cover yourself with the therapeutic mud. The Dead Sea’s mineral-rich deposits have been known for their many health benefits for thousands of years.

Thoroughly relaxed, you will then depart the Dead Sea and return to your hotel.

Day 4 - Wednesday: Jerusalem and Bethlehem

Drive to the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem and continue to Mount Zion where you will visit the Tomb of King David and the Room of the Last Supper.

Take in the striking architecture of Dormition Abbey before entering the Old City of Jerusalem, taking the narrow winding streets through the Armenian and Jewish Quarters. You will walk the excavated Byzantine-era Cardo road which is dated at 1,500 years old.

You will proceed to the Kotel, also known as the Western Wall or the Wailing Wall, where you will be able to feel the ancient stones beneath your fingertips and feel free to place handwritten notes between the cracks*.

After this, you will continue by walking the Via Dolorosa, which is known as the path that Jesus walked during the crucifixion and is marked by the Stations of the Cross. You will end this portion of the tour at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where Jesus was crucified, buried, and is believed to have been resurrected.

Next, you will continue with a drive to Bethlehem, where both Jesus and King David were born. Walk through Manger Square to the Church of the Nativity. This church was commissioned by Constantine the Great in 327, it is located over the cave where it is believed that Jesus was born. You will see Shepherds’ field, the site where the shepherds saw the Star of the Nativity.

After your meaningful day of touring, you will be returned to your hotel.

*NOTE: Modest dress (no shorts or sleeveless shirts) and head covering are required for visiting holy places such as the Western Wall.

Day 5 - Thursday: Departure

Check out of your hotel and transfer to Ben Gurion airport for your departure.
